He made his national television debut on the Johnny Cash Show in 1969 after being born in Tiel Ridge in Cameron Parish. Two months later, Louisiana Man, recorded in 1961, was broadcast from the lunar surface by the Apollo 12 astronauts. The song, which Kershaw recorded with his brother Rusty, was eventually covered by more than 800 artists. His 1969 contract with Warner Brothers Records culminated in a week-long opening gig at the Fillmore East in New York for Eric Clapton’s Derek & the Dominos. During an Astros game in the Houston Astrodome on June 21, 1975, Doug married Pam. Astrodome fans were treated to a concert following the game. He has five sons. One son, Tyler, is a drummer in his band. In 1988 he recorded Cajun Baby, a duet with Hank Williams, Jr. Doug became know as Doug “The Ragin’ Cajun” Kershaw
