The Kent Gill AirplayExpress Awards Page
Kent Gill grew up on a farm in Louisiana between DeRidder and Sugartown. He loved the traditional hymns at the small country church he attended and he loved the songs his mother sang while she went about her chores. With these musical influences, Kent soon began to sing and play guitar. Before long he was writing songs and performing at local gatherings. Upon graduation from school, Kent headed north for Shreveport to try to get into the music business. He had heard about a man named Tillman Franks in Shreveport who was the manager for country singer, David Houston. An audition was set up and by end of that summer, Kent was playing guitar with David Houston and Tillman Franks. During that time, they toured the U.S. and Canada and played several guest appearances on the Grand Ol’ Opry. Then military service called and Kent served in the U.S. Army. While in the Army he married Jane Lytle, and afterwards went to college, then Law School. A few years after law school Kent rejoined David Houston and began touring again, this time playing guitar and fiddle alternately. They toured the US, Canada, England, and Norway with appearances on the Opry, the Wembley Festival, plus a variety of other venues. Eventually Kent left the road, started a law practice, and played music locally. In late 2018, he released Let Not these Songs be Wasted, an album featuring 10 of his original songs. Three of those songs have placed on the Airplay Express charts, with “The Love Song of the Ages” cresting at number one in early 2019. “Your Pretty Hazel Eyes” and “Flower Mountain” are now climbing in the charts. Kent’s music influences include gospel, traditional country, rockabilly, and Cajun.
