A Salute To The Stars Vol 2

ThreeBeesNameclyderbirklaClyde R. Birkla was born Oct. 9, 1931 in Oriole, In and then moved to Mt. Carmel, ill. at 3 yrs. of age. His first experience with country music was listening to the Grand Ole Opry outside on hot summer nights from the neighbors radio. (we didn’t have a radio). He played in the Mt. Carmel jr. and high school bands. He joined the army in 1949 and served in the 10th inf. div. band at Ft. Riley, Kansas. Then he attended the u.s. naval school of music, Washington, DC, being only the second army class to graduate. Discharged in 1953 music was on the back burner until the 1980’s.He became a BMI publisher in 1990. (Birkla Music Enterprises). He met Keith Bradford through Tom Hodges in Jan. 1992. Keith then recorded “A Tribute To Kitty Wells”, (we are co-writers). We Then put together an album with Barbara and G. A. Blevins called “Reflections.” later on, we released a two song album called, “Good Education” and “I’m Reading Books”. We then produced a patriotic and country album with Bob Stamper. Clyde is presently writing with Barbara Blevins and Keith Bradford, known as the 3 B’s, having written over 600 songs, many gospel, patriotic, parody, tributes, and tear-jerkin’ country songs. He has a number of co-written songs and plans many more in the future.

barbarablevinsBarbara Birkla Blevins was born may 31, 1942, in Mt. Carmel, ill. moved to Pecos, TX. in the late 50’s, graduated in 1961.I’ve always been interested in writing music, but was too busy working and raising a family. In the early 90’s, I became serious about becoming a song writer and was encouraged by the 2 B’s, Clyde and Keith. I became the 3rd B. When the album Reflections was being produced into Keith’s first CD, we flew to Nashville to meet with Keith and get acquainted with Kitty Wells and Johnny Wright. At that time Keith was opening the show for Kitty and Johnny. We were invited to ride the tour bus with Kitty, Johnny and Keith to the WSM radio station at Ernest Tubb record shop. When the bus arrived at the WSM radio station, I noticed a young woman waiting and holding several 78 rpm record covers as MS. Kitty Wells stepped off the bus, this girl approached her and trembled as she asked Kitty to autograph them for her.Later on we learned that this dedicated fan with 3 children, drove all night and most of the day, just to meet and hear Kitty Wells. She was from West Virginia and grew up listening to MS. Kitty records. When they arrived at Ernest Tubb record shop, hungry and tired, afraid they wouldn’t get a parking place, she had the kids to sit in the parking space and save it while she went to a nearby McDonald’s for burgers and fries, that is what I call a truly dedicated fan. That’s the kind of fan we would like to have. In the future I plan on working and writing with the 2-b’s.

KeithBradford03Keith Bradford was born on September 19, 1948 in Rhode Island. The first song to come out of the songwriter collaboration currently known as The 3 B’s was called, “A TRIBUTE TO KITTY WELLS.” Clyde R. Birkla submitted his penned lyrics to Keith and a magical recording ended up on one of Keith’s finest albums ever recorded. The CD is called, “REFLECTIONS.” It was released on the legendary Crest Records in 1992.The second song lyric came in from Barbara Blevins who is Clyde’s sister. It is called, “SEALING GLANCES.” It also appears on this same mentioned CD along with 8 more co-writes. Birkla Music Enterprises (BMI) contains songs written by these three songwriters. The songs have been recorded by many artists through the years. Keith has recorded the majority of them.
